Care Back Into Healthcare

The Problem

Our healthcare system has lost its humanity. Republican policies and corporate profit-first models have priced families out of care — whether coverage comes through an employer or the marketplace. In our district, healthcare access often requires a drive most people cannot afford the time or money to make. Without action, rural hospitals will close and local economies will suffer.

How We Got Here

The "Big Beautiful Bill" — which should really be called the Big Billionaire Bill — has caused two critical problems for Georgia families.

First, it has driven up healthcare premiums sharply. About 190,000 fewer Georgians enrolled in ACA coverage for 2026 than the year before as costs rose. When healthy people drop coverage because they can't afford it, everyone's premiums rise even further.

Second, the same bill cut Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars and tied benefits to work requirements. A CBO analysis estimates approximately 624,000 Georgians will lose health coverage by 2034. Our already-struggling rural hospitals now face closure.

Instead of expanding Medicaid, Republicans created "Georgia Pathways" — a program that covers only a fraction of those who would qualify under full Medicaid expansion, and excludes the very people who need it most.

What I Will Do

I commit to driving these solutions in the Georgia House:

  • Expand Medicaid now. Even after federal cuts, expansion will increase access and help save our rural hospitals. Every delay means more Georgians without care.

  • Fight for a public option. Georgia can offer basic coverage to anyone who wants it — without stockholder profits driving up costs.

  • Realign priorities. Healthcare profits belong with patient care and providers, not stockholders and CEOs.

Healing — not billing — is what our families deserve. I will fight for that every session.
