<h4>The Problem</h4>When people can't find good jobs close to home, families fracture and communities suffer. In our district, the consequences are visible: young people leave, storefronts close, and the tax base shrinks. What is less visible — but just as real — is the connection between economic despair and public safety. Research consistently shows that drug trafficking and substance abuse thrive in communities without opportunity. Addressing safety means addressing the conditions that create it.<h4>How We Got Here</h4>Georgia's public school funding formula hasn't been meaningfully updated since 1985 and has been fully funded only three times in the last 25 years — leaving a cumulative shortfall exceeding $10 billion. Georgia is also one of only six states that provides no additional funding to help schools serving students from low-income families. Rural counties like ours — with thin property tax bases and high poverty rates — absorb that shortfall hardest.At the same time, we have spent decades telling every student that a four-year college degree is the only path to success, while trades and technical training were treated as lesser options. The Future: Education, Job Training &amp; Safety

<h4>The Problem</h4>Our healthcare system has lost its humanity. Republican policies and corporate profit-first models have priced families out of care — whether coverage comes through an employer or the marketplace. In our district, healthcare access often requires a drive most people cannot afford the time or money to make. Without action, rural hospitals will close and local economies will suffer.<h4>How We Got Here</h4>The "Big Beautiful Bill" — which should really be called the Big Billionaire Bill — has caused two critical problems for Georgia families.First, it has driven up healthcare premiums sharply. About 190,000 fewer Georgians enrolled in ACA coverage for 2026 than the year before as costs rose. When healthy people drop coverage because they can't afford it, everyone's premiums rise even further.Second, the same bill cut Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars and tied benefits to work requirements. A CBO analysis estimates approximately 624,000 Georgians will lose health coverage by 2034. Our already-struggling rural hospitals now face closure.Instead of expanding Medicaid, Republicans created "Georgia Pathways" — a program that covers only a fraction of those who would qualify under full Medicaid expansion, and excludes the very people who need it most.<h4>What I Will Do</h4>I commit to driving these solutions in the Georgia House:<ul><li>Expand Medicaid now. Even after federal cuts, expansion will increase access and help save our rural hospitals. Every delay means more Georgians without care.</li><li>Fight for a public option. Georgia can offer basic coverage to anyone who wants it — without stockholder profits driving up costs.</li><li>Realign priorities. Healthcare profits belong with patient care and providers, not stockholders and CEOs.</li></ul>Healing — not billing — is what our families deserve. Care Back Into Healthcare

<h4>The Problem</h4>Rural Georgians work hard — and we deserve the same foundation for opportunity that urban Georgia takes for granted. Good roads. Reliable internet. Strong local economies. But decades of underinvestment have left our communities behind, forcing talented young people to leave for places where opportunity exists.That vacancy has a cost beyond economics. Communities without diversified, thriving local economies have little leverage when outside interests come calling. When a data center developer arrives promising jobs and tax revenue, a desperate community accepts whatever terms are offered. A community with real economic opportunity can afford to ask harder questions — and demand better answers.<h4>How We Got Here</h4>Workers in Wayne, McIntosh, and Long Counties often have no choice but to drive an hour or more to Glynn or Chatham County just to find jobs that pay a living wage. Broadband gaps that have been documented for years remain unresolved while families and businesses go without.Meanwhile, the natural assets that could anchor a sustainable local economy are under threat. The RYAM pulp mill discharges up to 50 to 60 million gallons of effluent daily into the Altamaha River — one of the most biodiverse rivers on the continent. When an administrative law judge ruled in 2016 that the discharge permit violated Georgia water quality standards, EPD defended the weaker interpretation in court — and the courts agreed, leaving the Altamaha's pollution legally unaddressed. Four EPA Superfund toxic waste sites in Brunswick have left PCBs in the blood of residents — disproportionately Black residents — for decades, with cleanup still incomplete. In McIntosh County, the Gullah-Geechee community of Hogg Hummock watched their county quietly rezone their land to benefit developers, then spent years fighting their own government in court to stop it — and ultimately prevailed in January 2026.In some Georgia counties, data centers can be approved automatically in industrially zoned areas — with no ability for elected representatives or communities to weigh in on water use, energy demands, noise, or long-term ratepayer costs. Eight Georgia counties have already imposed moratoriums because they lacked the tools to evaluate these proposals before voting. That is a policy failure the legislature should fix.<h4>What I Will Do</h4>Real economic investment and environmental protection are not in tension — they are the same thing. Clean water supports our fishing families. Healthy marshes support tourism. Responsible development protects the tax base that funds our schools and roads. I commit to fighting for both:<ul><li>Fix our roads and close the broadband gap — reliable internet is infrastructure, the same as highways</li><li>Expand skills training, trades programs, and workforce development so workers build careers without leaving home</li><li>Connect our district's natural and cultural assets — Sapelo Island, Harris Neck, the Altamaha corridor, our Gullah-Geechee heritage — to sustainable economic development that creates local jobs and keeps tourism dollars here</li><li>Restore the water quality standards EPD defended weakening and push for legislative oversight of permitting decisions that harm our waterways</li><li>Require data centers to obtain special use permits — not automatic approvals — so communities can investigate the facts, hear from residents, and demand safeguards before any vote is taken</li><li>Work to ensure every county has the tools it needs — covering water use, energy demands, noise, traffic, and community impact — to make an informed decision on data center proposals before any vote is taken</li><li>Work alongside the Altamaha Riverkeeper, Southern Environmental Law Center, One Hundred Miles, and the Georgia Water Coalition to ensure legislative and legal advocacy work in tandem</li></ul>McIntosh County's history as an international timber hub and a commercial fishing powerhouse is a map of what this district is capable of with the right leadership. Communities that are thriving don't have to accept whatever development comes their way. <h4>The Problem</h4>When government operates in the dark, working families pay the price. In our district, critical decisions about how and where our communities grow — especially along our fragile coast — have been pushed into informal meetings dominated by developers and special interests, while ordinary residents were shut out until the deal-making was mostly done.This didn't happen overnight. It is the predictable outcome when power is concentrated in a few hands and there are no real consequences for hiding the ball from the public.<h4>How We Got Here</h4>Georgia does not lack sunshine laws on paper. What it lacks is a legislative and regulatory culture that treats public engagement as anything more than a procedural checkbox.In McIntosh County, commissioners quietly rezoned Hogg Hummock to benefit developers — and it took years of costly litigation before residents prevailed in January 2026. In Glynn County, developments have been approved without ensuring the roads, schools, and water infrastructure exist to support them — while residents who showed up and spoke against those decisions watched commissioners vote yes anyway. At the state level, the PSC rushed through a sweeping long-term energy plan in December 2025 before two newly elected commissioners could be sworn in, treating routine utility data as proprietary trade secrets rather than public information.And in the Georgia legislature itself, Georgia's rules only require recusal when a bill solely benefits a member's own business — meaning a legislator can vote on bills that regulate and benefit the very industry they own or profit from, as long as others in that industry benefit too. That is not just a conflict of interest — it is a betrayal of the people those officials were elected to serve.When public comment is ignored, decisions are made before the community walks in the door, and legislators profit from the votes they cast, sunshine laws become hollow promises.<h4>What I Will Do</h4>Georgia's zoning procedures are governed by state law — which means the General Assembly can strengthen them. And accountability requires more than better zoning rules. I will fight for:<ul><li>Amend the Georgia Zoning Procedures Law to require commissioners to produce written findings explaining how public comment was actually considered before any final vote — so that showing up means something</li><li>Require a supermajority of commissioners to approve any rezoning that receives substantial negative public comment — the higher the opposition, the higher the bar</li><li>Require a certified independent infrastructure impact study — covering traffic, schools, water, and sewer — paid for by the developer, not the taxpayer, before any significant rezoning is approved</li><li>Require balanced representation on any planning or zoning workgroup affecting our coast — community members, environmental experts, and working families, not just developers</li><li>Require mandatory financial disclosure and recusal when legislators vote on bills that regulate industries they personally own or work in — closing the loophole that currently allows legislators to profit from the votes they cast</li><li>Fight to restore Georgia's independent consumer utility advocate, ensuring ratepayers have independent legal representation in PSC proceedings — because a Public Service Commission that hears only from the utility it is supposed to regulate is not regulation, it is rubber-stamping</li><li>Strengthen whistleblower protections for government employees who report misconduct, so that the people closest to the problems have a safe path to expose them</li><li>Fight for full public access to PSC proceedings and utility data, and enforce open meetings and open records standards for any body shaping public safety or land use — even when they call themselves informal</li></ul>Accountability is not a courtesy. It is the structural check that prevents the powerful from writing the rules for everyone else — and from profiting while they do it. Data Centers On Way to Free Pass in Glynn County

<h4>The Problem</h4>Your power bill didn't go up by accident. Between 2023 and 2025, Georgia Power raised rates six times — while its parent company Southern Company saw profits grow by $400 million in 2024 alone. Average customer bills have risen $43 a month since 2023. In 2024, more than 150,000 Georgia households needed energy assistance just to keep the lights on.This happened because Georgia is one of only a handful of states in the country with no independent advocate to represent ratepayers before the Public Service Commission. Georgia Power negotiates with the PSC essentially unopposed — and residential customers pay whatever results.At the same time, Georgia faces a shortage of more than 365,000 homes. In our coastal district, that shortage hits hardest on the people who keep our economy running — teachers, nurses, hospitality workers, first responders — who can't afford to live where they work. Glynn County alone needs more than 9,500 additional housing units. In Long County near Fort Stewart, military families struggle to find affordable options. In rural McIntosh County, the lack of available homes makes it nearly impossible to recruit the essential workers our communities need.These aren't separate problems. When people can't afford their utility bills or a home, they leave. And when they leave, our communities shrink.<h4>How We Got Here</h4>Georgia abolished its independent consumer utility advocate in 2008 — an office that had protected ratepayers for over 30 years. Without it, there is no one in the room fighting for you when Georgia Power presents its rate requests. In December 2025, the all-Republican PSC rushed through a sweeping long-term energy plan just days before two newly elected Democratic commissioners — chosen by voters for stronger consumer protection — could be sworn in.Bipartisan legislation to restore the consumer utility advocate passed committee with overwhelming support but was blocked in the Senate Rules Committee by legislators who had received campaign contributions from Georgia Power. That fight is not over.On housing, decades of restrictive zoning, underbuilding, and rising construction costs created a shortage that rapid population growth has made worse.<h4>What I Will Do</h4>Affordable utilities and affordable homes are not luxuries. They are the foundation that lets families stay in the communities they love. I will fight for both.I will fight to restore Georgia's independent consumer utility advocate — a bipartisan effort with overwhelming legislative support that was blocked by legislators who received campaign contributions from the very utilities they were supposed to oversee — so that ratepayers have someone in the room fighting for them in every PSC proceeding.On housing, I commit to driving these solutions:<ul><li>Update zoning codes to allow duplexes, triplexes, and small-scale multifamily buildings in more areas</li><li>Require local governments to approve qualified affordable housing projects within 90 days</li><li>Reduce or waive impact fees for new affordable units to lower construction costs</li><li>Promote modular and manufactured home construction for installation across our district</li><li>Expand housing trust funds to build and preserve affordable housing</li><li>Allow Accessory Dwelling Units — backyard cottages and garage apartments — in single-family neighborhoods, with tax incentives for owners who rent at below-market rates</li></ul><a href="/#block-10c1c902-0db5-4d7f-9ca8-8705aa2c1111">Home</a> | <a href="/6a60a6e5-b7a6-40f9-83af-cfa3fb23cdd1#block-5f43e478-d8d0-4e31-9523-a924750bc7ae">Issues</a>
